Pammy…I agree with everything you said but I do remember Maggie when she first came on as the farm girl in crutches taking in Marty Hansen.  I was there when she had her surgery to be able to walk, her affiar with Don Craig and her alcoholism.    Maggie hasn’t changed over the years,  she’s just gotten wiser and I’m glad they don’t portray her as the town busy body anymore.

Vivian, I used to love (years ago) for comic relief and her SL with Carly.  When she came back and it’s droned on and on about first Lawerence and now Maggie (and the fact that they haven’t brought back Ivan for her to get into trouble with), is close enough for me to be rooting for her to be in the casket for awhile – a little while, I still love her. When I think of Vivian and Ivan I can’t help remember the time Stephano put that chip in her tooth and she decided she was going skydiving with Ivan right behind her trying to talk her out of it all the way down and Stefano driving trying to get to her in time to stop her.

I’m still holding out that Mel and Phillip will progress in their relationship one way or the other some day soon.  Phillip has changed a lot (face transplant and all) – even though he’s still spoiled and petulant.  As conniving as Melanie startd out she’s really trying to make her marriage to Phillip work even though she has feelings for Nathan.

Shoot even Kate isn’t in her kids face all the time, now that she’s got Stephano to take care of.  Plus, I think that she of all the baddies, at least stops for a moment and you can see her wheels clicking about repercussions of her actions.  Kate’s run all of her kids out of town except for Phillip and he’s got Victor that will make sure Kate doesn’t go overboard with her manipulations of his life.

It’s the running down of Arianna, which I too agree sounds like a hit.  Days Cafe even said when Ari vowed to find out who shot EJ she didn’t know she was signing her own death sentence.  Anyway, if it is a planned hit, that makes me think it was someone else who shot EJ.  That it was a professional hit or as someone mentioned, Anna, because I can’t believe Sami or Will would be capable of pre-meditated cold blooded murder.  Sami shot EJ in a fit of rage and she didn’t plan it but to run someone down on purpose is not an accident.

Unless Chelsea is back in town.

I forgot that Stefano was the one that brought Meredith to Salem.

I liked the theory that the DiMera’s were somehow involved in Emily’s death.  That one I could swallow a lot easier than Rafe being a DiMera.  I’d read an interview with Joe M. a while back and he makes jokes about Stefano’s many offspring that keep popping up.  I guess Brian Ditallo wasn’t the only one that wanted Lucas to be Stefano’s as Joe thought that story had great potential.

I thought a sarcophogus was a coffin that wasn’t buried.  Much like the mummies and ancient Egyptians that were buried above ground in the pyramids.

What’s shocking is in reading about them the the term is Greek and it’s from the stone they were made from that was thought to eat the flesh and bones, leaving only the teeth within a few weeks.   With Victor being Greek I’m surprised he went along with this one.

Agree but we all know Stefano would take that as "siding with the enemy" and Kate would have to face Stefano’s rath.

The DNR may be redundant but did you know even if you have a living will it’s up to your family, next of kin or medical POA to have it enforced or not. They can rescind it at any time.

I’ve always thought that was rediculous to have one if it doesn’t have to be enforced but it does help the family know what you wanted.  Before my dad died I knew what he wanted and didn’t want because we talked about it and my mom left it up to me to make any decisions.  My mom never talked about anything and when the time came to make decisions I knew in my head what I needed to do but I couldn’t say the words "STOP".  Finally her doc was of for the weekend and his associate was on call.  He and I sat and he suggested things we’d do and not do.  All I had to do was agree to each item he listed and we had the DNR in place BUT I didn’t have to initiate the conversation.  Since my mom’s kidneys had shut down as a result of her heart not working properly and she was already on a ventilator with a temporary pacemaker in place (done before I got to the hospital) we decided she’d stay on the vent and pacemaker but if something happened we wouldn’t make any adjustments to the settings.  We wouldn’t start dialysis in the hopes that her heart would start functioning properly and then hope her kidneys would start but because of the toxins building up in her system and the effect they’d have on her brain we gave her an IV of Valium so she wouldn’t be aware.  All her meds would stay the same but we wouldn’t increase or decrease any doses if needed. In otherwords we didnt’ take anything away but nothing more heroic would be done to keep her alive when these weren’t enough anymore.

I’m thinking he’ll remember but hold it over Sami’s head and blackmail her in some way to get Johnny and Sydney or keep her from marrying Rafe.

I like that theory but it’s similar to the one when he was shot before.  Was it Kate or Marlena who was at the church with a gun and as they were aiming heard another gun shot.

If this is how it’s going to happen they’re not only repeating the same storyline but recreating it down to the finest detail.

We all know the obvious isn’t always the answer. We saw Sami take the gun, we saw Sami aim and we heard a shot.  It apppears Sami shot EJ but that’s too clean cut and easy.

There are 2 POA’s. You an have a Medical Power of Attorney who makes medical decisions if you’re unable to make them yourself and that’s all they can do which is probably where Sami comes in.  A Legal Power of Attorney is totally different and I really can’t see anyone giving Sami that much power.

But you’re right, a Medical POA is just the person who has the final say but doesn’t have to come to any decisions on their own.

When they intubate they have to go past the vocal cords and make sure they’re in the trachea and not esphagas.  Sometimes due to anatomy or swelling from various reasons it’s hard to see so someone with more experience or just another eye needs to step in.

The balloon is flexable so can be pulled out if tugged on, that’s why it’s taped in place and with a lot more than the 1 piece of tape that they show on TV shows.  It usually toes around the back or the head and if tape isn’t used they have holders that go around the head. It has to be kept stable and make sure it’s not going to shift and start pushing air in the stomach or pull back enough that air’s going into the stomach.

A patient can pull them out and won’t rip out their vocal cords but the will have a very sore throat and in some cases cause permanent damage.  We had a patient who was very hard to intubate that the doctor had to put a bronchoscope through the tube and use that to visualize where he was and slide the tube down over that.  Sometimes they go in the nose which I hate, it makes the part sticking out shorter and much harder to tape.  Had one ER doc who decided the best way to get a tube in when there was too much damage to see was to put a guide wire through the guy’s neck/throat and pick up up with forceps through the mouth.  He threaded the tube over the guide wire and tried pulling the wire through the throat.  The only thing that happened was tha patient’s head kept bouncing on the table every time he pulled. It also got that doc reported for his behavior.  Another patient was getting a bath and when they turned him on his side the ventilator tubing got caught on the sice of the bed. When they turned him back the tube came out.

It’s not uncommon for someone to be on a ventilator after surgery, even for a simple surgery.    Once in a while a patient might have trouble waking up from anesthesia or the doctor just feels more comfortable with that course of action  If the surgery was late at night and they don’t want to be bothered by phone calls during the night.  If someones on heavy duty sedation which might be the case after brain surgery.  Even the injury itself could have depressed is respiratory system where he’s breathing on his own but not effectively exchanging the gasses and needs the control or a little extra push.

When my husband had a gastric bypass they said he’d be on a ventilator only in the recovery room.  He was on it for several days due to sleep apnea and his CPAP machine wasn’t effective enough.  They also kept him pretty sedated so he wasn’t aware of much.

So, I don’t see him being on a ventilator as unusual, but if he wakes up and starts talking then I’d have a problem since you can’t or shouldn’t be able to talk around that tube.  It goes past your vocal cords and there’s a cuff (balloon) that they fill with air to make a seal and no air or minimal air should get up past that.

The other things as to how much hair to shave and how sterile the area is, that’s just plain ignorance.

A woman I use to work with started writing a story for her grandkids the day they were born.  She had her first thoughts when seeing them, the things they did together and pretty much a "This is Your Life" type of thing.  I thought that was such an awesome idea but not having any kids of my own I started one for my cousin.  When she was born she’d come stay weekends or weeks with my mom and I.  She was 4 when her grandfather adopted her and my mom died but I’d planned to take her to Disney World that March and the 2 of us went off together.  She lived about 80 miles from me and her grandfather (my cousin) was divorced so I’d go spend weekends with them and her and I would go on adventures together or just do girl stuff like get manicures or shop.  She always felt important when I’d ask her opinion on things I’d buy.  Usually I’d pick out 2 items I wanted and get her opinion on which I should get.  We had a special bond and even decided there was Mother’s & Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Valentine’s & Sweetest’s Day but no day for cousins so we picked a Day in June to be Cousin’s Day and she got to pick whatever we did that day.  She was 13 and living with her aunt and uncle when Don and I got married then moved from Chicago to Alabama.  Leaving her was the hardest.

Anyway, with my long story I’d decided to write a little bio on her when she was about  6.  A couple of years ago I got to reveiw Cherished Bound which is a picture book that you can add text to.  I pulled out the notes I’d written and went through old photos and found many that I liked and took bits and pieces of what I wrote and added it to some of the pages  The front cover had a photo fo her and I when she was about 5 and the back was a photo taken for high school graduation.  I started out with her mom being pregnant and how excited I was the day she was born and went on to the first time I saw her.  Then how I took my parents on our last family vacation to Geneva, Wis and rented a cabin for a week of nothing and took her with when she was 8 months old.  Went on to how mom and her would argue about everything when she was 3 years old and had photos of my mom outside blowing bubbles and her running around trying to catch them.  There were Disney photos and how I loved seeing her reactions to things like the Epcot Ball and having breakfast with the Disney characters. When she was 8 I we took a driving trip west and went to South Dakote for The Badlands, Mt. Rushmore.  Stayed 3 nights in Yellowstone then drove to Montana and stayed with a cousin and came home through North Dakote and Minnesota and spent a day at Camp Snoopy at Mall of America.  When she was 9 we went to Hawaii and she got to swim with the dolphins and at 11 was our last vacation together and we drove to Reddington Beach, Florida and rented an apartment on the beach. She decided she was my "travel companion" and she helped in some of the planning and helped make decisions on what we’d do each day (with some guidance)  When we went on driving trips we had a deal.  I’d pump gas but she had to clean the windows. Every morning I’d show her on the map where we were and where we were going to end up that day. I’d highlight the drive and she’d watch for road signs and point to the map to show me where we were.  Kept her occupied and she wasn’t asking "how much farther".  Anyway,  I had the book  printed in hard cover and sent it to her for her 19th birthday and she said she was laughing at some of the pictures and crying at the memories.  That’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to being published.

My husband said I can be a humorous writer and thought I should write an Erma Bombeck type of book so I don’t have to focus on one long story.  Something like that I think I could handle.  I always thought I’d like to do a children’s book but after writing my puppies stories writing for kids is a lot harder than you think.

You humorous book on your cancer is actually good.  I think until you’ve been though it you can’t even fathom someone finding humor in it.  We had a nurse who went on to get her PhD in psychology.  She started a C.H.E.E.R. group at the hospital.  I can’t remember what the acrynom is for but it has to do with humor and chronic illness.  She gave talks to our breathers group and had us in stitches, it was like going to a comedy club.  She gave us medical data on how laughter releases chemicals in the brain that stimulates narcotic pain relievers and helps lessen pain.  Also how starting the day with bad or depressing news will carry through your entire day where starting with a laugh will brighten your day.  She gave us a task for 1 month we were to put away the morning paper or only read the comics and not watch morning news.  Then report back to her on how we felt and most said they were happier.  Also being around negative people or people who are sad all the time will bring your mood down.   Most think those with a fatal disease or chronic illness can’t laugh or don’t want to but fail to realize they need to feel normal and laughter is a part of living.  We had a neighbor who had stomach or intestinal cancer and was going through chemo.  She lost her hair and always wore a turban.  The first time my mom saw her without her turban she called her Kojak and since them she’d walk over and as soon as she got in the house the turban came off.  She could be herself and not worry about upsetting my mom.  She said it was freeing to have someone she didn’t have to pretend around.

I think making those things for hospital patients is wonderful.  Everyone needs to feel useful and also feel someone is thinking of them.

Knowing Nicole and EJ she porbably didn’t have an offshore account but he’s got tenticles that reach everywhere and either set it up for her or had connections and was able to have himself on the account also.  Of course I’m just reaching here we all know in Salem there’s no such thing as privacy and anyone can have access to any informatin they want at any time.
