Yeah I agree about Belle.  She has changed so much from the hood girl role she played before.

Patty – no disrespect perceived or taken.  I’m just happy to "educate" what little even I understand about these challenges.  I will brag that my son is the only  one of my 3 kids with a high-school diploma (and a general diploma, not a spec ed!) – his brother and sister have GED’s.  Plus he’s held him job so long, and was just named Employee of the Month, an honor he’s gotten 4 times and was once Employee of the Year.  He gets $$$ for these honors, so he’s pretty happy! LOL.  Just a little brag session…they’re a challenge, but a wonder too.  I call them the universe’s sparkling gems in the rubble of humanity.  I remember that TV show you mentioned…can’t think of the full title – it was on SUnday nights in the 80’s I believe. The brother had Downs and he was a terrific actor – even won an Emmy for the role.

had a child character who had Asperger’s. Life Goes On was about a child with Down’s Syndrome and his family life. Starred Patti Lupone I think

Kellie Martin was sister to Chris Burke, a “high functioning” Downs who was mainlined through school. He was a treat to watch and married his co-star. I don’t know if they are still hitched.
I also enjoyed the SL with Kellie and Chad Lowe as one of the first HIV characters.
