I had my surgery ulcer Dec. 28th and came home yesterday.  I now have a much smaller stomach but no more ulcers.  Everything went well and I’m mending nicely.  Still pretty sore and very weak from not being able to eat.  Would you believe, one day all I had for three meals was Jello (diet at that!) and Crystal Light?  And that was after they removed the IV fluids.  The next day they added a protein shake which I could drink anyway because I’m VERY lactose intollerant so I virtually lived two days with NO nourishment at all.

I really read that doctor (he was covering for my doc who had the weekend off) the riot act and he told me that diet was standard for gastric by-pass surgery which is very similar to what they did to me.  I told him I DON’T NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT, the surgeon tells me I’m too skinny as it is (of course no girl can be TOO skinny, right?).

Within an hour, I had a tray with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, tomato soup, slice of bread and a bowl of mandarin oranges.  Boy, did I gobble that up.  But found I couldn’t eat as much as usual (due to a much smaller stomach, about 1/3 less).  In fact, I could only eat about 1/3 of it.  I sure hope I don’t lose any more weight now.

Anyway, just wanted you to know it’s all over, I’m home and doing well and I know everybody’s previous prayers and good wishes were instrumental in everything going to well.  Many, many, thanks to you all!

Glad the surgery went OK and you’re home.

Don had a gastric bypass for weight loss in 2005.  He can’t eat much with each meal but if you eat more meals a day you’ll be OK.  Also you don’t get all the nutrients you should from food so make sure you eat the protein first.  You also might have a problem with sugar.  Most with gastric bypass do since your glucose goes up then down very fast and you "dump" which is when you get real tired and sometimes nauseated.   Don also has a problem with milk or dairy which he didn’t have before the surgery so that’s in moderation for him now.

2012 will be surgery free for you, Bonbon (haha).  Seems to me like you have been through enough.  Stay well, and you will always be in my prayers.

You’ve all been so sweet to send me all your prayers and good wishes.  As I said, I know they worked.  I just hope I don’t have to ask for any more this year…or EVER, for that matter. ♥♥♥♥♥♥

And now, back to our regularly scheduled nonsense.  :o)

Glad it’s all done and over with!   and your home recuperating!  you’ll get used to the smaller stomach, i only have a 1/3 of mine left after my surgery in 03.  i do have quite a bit of nausea, but i have pills for that.  i know that i cant eat a whole lot but usually i eat way too much.

I might be having surgery on my hand.  last year i started falling asleep while i was on the toilet.  dont ask why, i know it’s not the most comfortable seat in the house. lol.  but i still fall asleep, a few times i’ve fallen off. i usually have a helper chair on the toilet with arms, and when i have that i dont tend to fall off as much. my brother in law is a pretty big guy and he cant fit in the chair so we had to take it off while they were here. and i fell off on night and landed right on my knuckle.  ouch!  i found out today that i did get a fracture in my joint, so tomorrow i’m going to see the plastic surgeon to see if i need surgery or maybe just a splint.  it hurts pretty bad, i can use my right hand pretty well just keep my index finger out of the way.  i can only bend it half way. it hurts to even brush it with my finger lightly.  ugh. Only me right? LOL.   Oh well it couldve been worse.

or something not so extreme will work for you Nora.

BTW, what do you take for nausea?  I’m beginning to experience it.  They told me in the hospital it was from the IV pain medication but I’m not taking that now.  If I eat more than about a cup full I get the nausea.

And STOP FALLING OFF THE TOILET!!! :o)

LMAO I’ll try Bonbon, I’ll try!   i take promethezine for nausea.  i was on compozine for a long time and i developed a rare side effect and awful side effect called naculogyric crysis. i doubt i spelled that right, to make a long story short, my muscles would get really tight, i could still move around, and my eyes would roll up in my head and i couldnt volintarilly move them.  it sounds as awful as it felt.  i finally went to a neurologist and automatically went to  that diagnsis.  and once i stopped taking the compozine i quit having the episodes and never had one again.  i always say that i’m allergic to composine.

That would have scared the pants off me (unles I was sitting on the toilet!).  How horrible.  I’d say I was allergic too.  I’m allergic to ibuprofen and when I say that they always ask me what happens.  When I say I get hives, they say, yes, that is an allergy.  I would definitely think your symptoms would qualify big-time as being allergic…BIG-TIME!!!

well i got a splint.   i fractured it right above the knuckle.  he said if i had surgery that it wouldnt really do that much good, that if it helped that my finger would be stiff.  with the splint it would heal better.  plus with the splint, i have to wear it for about 1 1/2 weeks then go back 4 another xray and then start hand exercizes at home.  surgery it would heal alot slower and i’d have to go 3-4 weeks for therapy at the hospital, so the splint kept sounding better and better. i cant say much for the doc. took him forever to get in there and he had ZERO bedside manner.  didnt like him at all. at least he gave me pretty good news.

Just make sure you wear that splint religiously or it won’t happen.  Orders from Doctor Bonbon!  :o)
