I am a huge skating fan but this show is dullsville to me. I am not interested in any of these C-list competitiors and my big beef is far too much time is spent on everything BUT the performances. Pare it down by half and move it along.
These judges including Dick Button and Johnny Weir are far too good for this lame lineup.successful, but the ratings weren’t good. I’m guessing they thought enough years had gone by that they might get a new set of viewers that might make it more successful….NOT! It seems obvious that they couldn’t get any "A" list stars to participate, so I think this will be the end of this idea.
contracts and huge insurance libility that they will not take unnecessary risks to their faces, bodies, because when they are on a hit show – that costs the advertisers money if the stars are unable to act, hence the "C" list "stars" because they don’t have a contract and need work???
I love skating too but I have NO investment in any of those "stars." In fact, I’ve only even barely heard of one of them and haven’t the slightest idea who the others are. Why would I watch when I couldn’t care less who wins or loses. Nope, I’m afraid ABC has a real loser there. And I hate that because I’ve got Disney stock. :o)
I think the networks (AND the cable channels also) have gone way overboard with this reality stuff. Yeah, I know they’re cheap to produce but they seem to come up with 50 stinkers for each hit they get. I can count on one hand the reality shows I watch and actually enjoy. Some times I’ll watch one or two of them I don’t really care for but there’s nothing else on.
I say "reality" very loosley as I don’t think many of them are based on reality at all. So much of the individual show is contrived with a planned plot. I think this is cyclical. The advertisers and writers come up with one show (as you indicated Bonbon) and poof, there are 101 other shows trying to emulate it – many without success.
Remember when there were a million comedies (and we know how you love those laugh tracks, eh Bonbon?), then there was the "hero in tights" Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman phase, how about all the westerns that used to be on – Rawhide, Bonnaza, Wild Wild West, etc., and then there are the four hundred zillion or so cop shows that were on like Hill Street Blues – et al, and if you go wayyyyyyyyy back – all the singing/variety shows (before American Idol and after Ed Sullivan?)…now there are entire networks dedicated to a particular genre.
Why can’t they do any now days? I used to LOVE The Smothers Brothers, Sonny and Cher, Carol Burnette, Donny and Marie, and all those musical/comedy/variety shows. And they were something you could let your kids watch.
I just discovered HDNetTV shows concerts on Sunday nights. I watched Michael Buble last Sunday night and, although I knew he was a very talented guy, I was never a really big fan. Boy, was I blown away!!!! That guy has charisma oozing out of his body. What a great show that was.
And then I caught Andrea Bocelli’s Christmas show on PBS too. It was also very good except I really didn’t care for the standard caroles sung in Italian. It just seemed to take something away from them. But, MAN, that guy can really sing.
Dating myself here, but singers like Andy Williams and Perry Como and Bing Crosby would have a Christmas show which everyone watched. They incorporated their families and celebrity guests and were quite enjoyable. Nothing like that these days. I guess an era gone by for good.

shows back then. One of my favorite songs from Christmas was the one where Bing Crosby and David Bowie sang together "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Peace on Earth". Those were two very different singing styles, but did their voices blend well! I love hearing that during the Christmas Season.
on PBS too – Celtic Women sing Christmas songs and then they have guys that sing Christmas songs from Ireland too. About 7 years ago at Christmas time Walmart had a Christmas CD (3 package) from various artists with all the great Christmas music like you mentioned Luckey and the day after Thanksgiving every year I turn off talk radio and play those in my car until New Years. Gets me in the mood for maintaining peace and love through all the traffic and hustle and bustle. And yes, even at my age, I catch Frosty and Charlie Brown Christmas – they’ve been on for a zillion years but are such classics!
