OMG. Do any of you like this girl??? I just turned the channel to idol and saw that one girl I think she’s friom Africa, she has crazy wild hair. She reminds me so much of fantasia!! UGH, at least the judges didn’t like it.
I watch AI every year, but usually don’t start watching until now–when it’s narrowed down to the top 20 or top 10. I watched it tonight, and the girl at the piano (Angela Miller?) was really the only one who stood out for me, but really all the girls seem to have the same general sound. There isn’t an edgy rocker or one with a different style in the whole bunch. I miss singers like Elise from last year. And, Nora, I didn’t like Zoanette either! Anyway, it’s just the first night for me, so I admit I’m not basing my opinion on much.
Zonette won’t make the Five and I truly wonder how she got this far. I really liked the last girl and the one at the piano. I have to say I’m kind of weary of the country singers – we’ve had a number of them now and I’d like a change.
and my favorite from last night was Amber Holcomb. She sang Whitney Houston’s "I Believe" and I thought she did a fantastic job. She has that type of "Whitney" voice, which many try but do not succeed. IMO she nailed it.
I also liked Angie Miller, and see her going all the way to the finals. I was surprised to learn that the song she did was written by one of my favorites from last year, Colton Dixon. Great song and performance.
Kree Harrison has that great range and strength in her voice. She seems to prefer country, but she’s not too country. I think she can sing just about anything. She reminds me of Adele and even looks like Adele; she definitely has her style of singing.
These three were the best, IMO. Cannot stand Zoanette and hope she doesn’t make it. She’s just horrible and did no justice to Tina Turner whatsoever, and her running around the stage yelling and screaming is something I do not want to have to watch from week to week.
I still like Aubrey, but she picked the wrong song last night. Hope that doesn’t cost her.
Don goes to the AI forums and there’s a lot on there who think there were better performers who didn’t make it through. Their opinion is they picked the ones who are "Reality TV" worthy like Zoamette.
I do agree there’s no versatility to the styles and they all sound the same. Maybe it’s song choice since they all seemed to sing ballads with the exception of Zoamette who thought she was a cross between Fantasia and Tina Turner and fell flat on both and there was another one (don’t remember her name) who had a slight jazzy sound to her.
