is being affected by Sandy. That must be where our posters live. Why virtually no posts since Friday?
If so, I hope all you guys up there are safe and don’t encounter too much rain and wind. If you lose power, get out the old butane computer. :o) Seriously, I know how bad it was when it went through here (where it was still off-shore) so can imagine what’s going on up there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Actually, we’re still getting fall-out. Highway A1A, which runs near the beach in Miami Beach, had a 10′ sand dune washed up all along the beach and the highway is still flooded and closed. (Businesses are just now cleaning up and re-opening.) That was kind of strange because when Sandy went through, it washed it all out. Well, it saved the city a lot of money replacing all that sand but they’ll still have to clean it up out of the street and bulldoze it back onto the beaches.
but, thank God, I am okay here. I got a little flooding in my basement, but not much to speak of compared to some other locations. I didn’t lose power, my car was not in the path of falling trees, and my home’s windows were not invaded by any projectiles, which from the looks of things outside today, there were many. I feel blessed that my entire family is safe and sound, and except for some minor clean-up, their homes were kept out of harm’s way. It looks like New York and New Jersey were really hit hard. For as massive a storm as it was, it was more a huge inconvenience in my part of our state. We did get mostly rain damage. I live in the City now, between Fells Point and Canton, and we got about a 7" rainfall, but that was the worst of it, for me anyway. Many things still closed today, though, including schools, transit, flights canceled up and down east coast. Huge damage, but could have been a lot worse according to what I’m seeing elsewhere.
I am west of Philly and just got power back a short time ago. Fortunatly we were only out for about 15 hours. Had a lot of rain and wind, branches down and stuff like that. At least none of my trees came down. Hope everyone else is safe.
I am about 5 days behind. I just can’t stand to watch certain characters like EJ and Kristin so I get irritated just enough that I shut the sow off. Maybe I should just watch yesterday’s show and delete the others.
I’m in Jersey but thank God we never lost power. I am now sheltering several family members who lost power but so many others are so much worse off so we are thankful.
I live in South County, about 6 miles from Narragansett. We have had lots of damage along the coast and many trees down. We lost power here for 2 days and since we, like many in the area, have wells, that meant no water (bye showers and toilets). The next town over lost power to 98% of homes and the local power company won’t even give them an estimate of when it will be back. The good news is no loss of life in Little Rhody!
Having lived on the Gulf Coast all my life, I feel for the people affected by Sandy. Ike did a number on Texas some years back. I was blessed to be able to evac to San Antonio to stay with friends who insisted I stay with them till my power was restored.
I really feel for the people affected by the super storm as I’ve been through a number of hurricanes and a few tornagos over the years. My problem is the show. I am really not happy with the story lines lately.
We are on Long Island-inland. We were very lucky;our power came back on last night. We have a generator for heat & refrigerator. The south shore is devasted. It will be a very long time before our area can recover. We need everyone’s prayers.
After Wilma went through here they passed a law that all gas stations had to have generators to pump gas. It seems for the cost of a generator, that would probably be a good idea for stations at any location that has a threat of losing power. That was a real problem after Katrina too, many people couldn’t get out of the city because they had no gas.
Although I’m a firm believer that you take care of those things BEFORE the storm hits, have gas, water, food, MONEY (ATMs and credit cards don’t work), etc. So many people were unprepared because they didn’t think it would happen to them. I’ll bet they’re prepared next time.
I continue to pray that God spares any and all who have been subjected to this very powerful, very devastating super-storm from any further harm or stress and to keep everyone safe from what I understand is another Nor’easter on the way this week, but nothing compared to "Sandy". I’m praying it changes course and goes out into the Atlantic and does not affect our coastline.
