For those who watched, what did you think of the finale? I really wanted Ozzy to win as he is, in my opinion, one of the best, if not THE best player in Survivor history. He is absolutely outstanding in challenges, plays a good social game, and adapts extremely well to his surroundings. He was so self sufficient that I think he could have actually lived on that island for a long period of time by himself. Did you see him on top of that palm tree? I think he is the epitome of a "survivor" because to me, it’s not just about playing the game, but also about being able to live and thrive in the environment they’re thrown in to.
Between Sophie and Coach, it didn’t matter too much to me who won as long as it wasn’t Albert, who I feel did nothing in the game.
I watched some of the reunion special. Russell Hantz was not very nice in his comments about Brandon’s game playing. It’s too bad there was nobody else from Brandon’s family in the audience. Didn’t Brandon say something to the effect that everybody had other plans? I’m wondering if the poor kid never got any kind of praise or positive attention from his family. Judging by his father and Russell, it’s probably true.
I too wanted Ozzie to win and agree with your assessment of him. Poor guy, what a disappointment but he was really happy with the ovation he got at the end. I didn’t care for Sophie at all but the same thing has happened in the past. Some nobody that continually flew under the radar comes up the winner.
I was kind of rooting for Albert just because he’s also from Florida. I couldn’t believe he didn’t get any votes at all. Looks like maybe a lot of what was said about him was true.
I guess of the three, I’d probably prefer if Coach won. I was so surprised that Cochran voted for him. I guess he really impressed the poor little nerd. But Coach was certainly a different guy that the last time he was on.
As for Russell…that is the most dispicable and disgusting contestant they have EVER had on Survivor. Even worse than Hatch. Because it started so late, I didn’t watch the reunion part but have it recorded and will watch today so didn’t see what the little weasel had to say.
I didn’t see who won the $100,000 for the best player. Hope it was Ozzie. But I’m guessing it probably went to Coach, even though I thought Ozzie far outplayed him.
For just making all the challenges against his fellow competitors. I didn’t like the "coach/dragon-slayer/" I thought he was a big phoney. So much of this game is for the audience, lights, camera, action…I read a book last week called "The Hunger Games" a sort of stepped up Survivor game set in the future, but they (characters) all really had to survive in the game or be killed and it was televised as the highest rated show to the public that was forced to watch (because it was their children who had to play the game) – I can actually see that on t.v. in the future if we keep going the way we are. And then there are our troops, now there are the people that really deserve a million dollars. So I just look at this Survivor game on t.v. as a comedy of what silly, greedy people are.
didn’t learn much from Survivor history. Backstabbers rarely win unless you’re very crafty ala Rob. Coach set himself up as a virtuous gameplayer and how the mighty fall.
I didn’t like how Sophie, in the second to last challenge practically ordered -who was it Albert? – to leave his own task to come and help her. But Sophie did win some challenges and beat Oz when it counted so I have to give her props for that.veering off the main topic, but you should read the 2 sequels to Hunger Games, they are very good (Catching Fire and Mockingjay). Hunger Games is being made into a movie, that I think will be coming out next year. I am looking forward to it!
it’s going to be geared toward the teens, much like the Twilight movies were. I don’t think it’ll really do the book justice.
Pammy, if you liked that one you should read The Long Walk by Steven King and Richard Bachman. It is about kidss that enter this "race" and the last one still "walking" is the winner. Very much like The Hunger Hames, maybe a little more gruesome.
"un-depressed" from reading it…it was pretty dark. I usually like more uplifting books but I do have to admit, I could not put "The Hunger Games" down – read it in one afternoon. Thanks to you and Bon for letting me know about them making a movie about it…sounds interesting, especially if they do a good job at it. And yes, I was very surprised to read that it is geared to a younger crowd…no wonder so many kids now-a-days are down – all the killing, little hope for the future. Very dark book, guess even the book left the horror open for the sequels. Reminds me of Rod Serling, Stephen King, etc. also.
not many movies do justice to the books they are patterned after. I haven’t read a King book in a long time, because of his genre, but he is the best of the best in absolute horror, (and not the monster kind of horror – but actual horror), just not my cup of tea but I will look for The Long Walk – sounds interesting. Not sure how much more gruesome I could take seeing how The Hunger Games creeped me out. Thanks.
does anyone remember the Twilight Zone tv series? I loved it as a kid and I watch the marathons they run every now and then. That guy was genius!
and they still run them on one of the cable channels, mostly late night/twilight time, which I guess is understandable. When I see them I record them, just to renew the nostalgia of those black and white shows. They’re also re-running The Alfred Hitchcock hourly shows, which I also totally loved. AH made sure he was always in an opening or closing scene. Loved those shows.

When I retired I only wished for the health of my dogs and enough time to read all I wanted…(and good health of my friends and myself), and now I have a Kindle!!! LOL.
Probably the one that always comes to mind for me when you say "Twilight Zone." And you’re right about him being ahead of his time. That man was truly talented and such a great imagination. I will occasionally watch an episode when they are on which I very rarely do with other shows. Once I’ve seen them, that’s all I care for but his are so mezmorizing they just take you by the nose and lead you on.
I think Steven King is similar to RS talentwise (except his genre is limited to horror) but I got tired of reading his books because some of them just became too bizarre. His first ones, Carrie, Coju, The Stand, Christine (was that the name…about the car?), Maximum Overdrive, Pet Sematary and Firestarter (my favorite) were so very good.
they were just brilliant. Then in 1986 I was working alone (graveyard shift), as emergency dispatcher in a huge building that normally 300 people worked in daytime….It was a quiet night, no storms, no radio traffic, all my paperwork was done, all I had to do was maintain radio/phone traffic. We had a desk drawer of books/magazines for the graveyard folks in the wee hours of the morning (along with a dedicated coffee pot) that we had to work the shift once every other week due to staff shorteges, and some clown left "It" by Steven King in the drawer. I scared myself so bad that night…I’ve never read another.
And what girlfriend didn’t break her boyfriends hand at the end of the movie Carrie gripping so hard?
