This makes me very sad!!! She is the reason I started watching the show and 90% of why I enjoy it today!!! I can’t handle a recast – i want Sami written out.

to see how much AS’s role retained viewers. I agree a recast would not do it for me. I wonder if Days might shuffle Ali’s salary into one for Peter Reckell?
I don’t believe it!!!!! I will have to see/hear it with my own two eyes/ears, or hear her announce it on a reputable show instead of some rumor control site before I will allow myself to be as upset as I know I will be if it’s true. For me, this woman IS an icon where Days of Our Lives is concerned, and I would be devastated if this is true. Of course, this would make a lot of the Sami haters extremely happy (you know the ones I mean …. the ones who can’t separate the actor from the character) but be careful what you wish for. I have never heard of this site before, and I’m more than a little suspect of any site that starts with the word “rumor” in it, so I’ll stick with “wait and see” for now.
Whoops, nevermind; just read the complete article and she either did or will announce it on Ellen on Tuesday. SMDH; still hard to believe but best of luck to her. Lord knows, she has enough pans in the fire, but this fan will truly miss her, and like Peter Reckell, a re-cast simply would not do it for me.
Sami is a huge part of Days and is involved with so many characters and storylines – I would imagine it would be difficult to write her out BUT I wouldn’t want to see a recast. Ali is Sami, no one else. It will be interesting to see what happens. As a Mom though, I understand her decision and support it. I cut back on working and volunteering when my kids were preteen and now that they are teens, we have a great relationship because they know I am there for them and they can count on me. I think kids need their parents around more at that age than toddlers.
I support why she is doing it – family first!!! She negotiated a lot with her last re-up so I wonder if salary played a tiny part in it (Corday was very vocal last time that they would do anything to keep her.). Perhaps her kids and money combined helped her make this decision. And Patti – it is on the cover of the new SOD.
What I don’t get is her kids will be in school next year. I am sure she could work a deal to be home when they get out. I think she plans on doing other things and decided the soap grind is getting old. Best of luck to her.
if she still keeps up everything else. IMO, anyone else could (and did) host The Biggest Loser, but no one else could ever be "Sami"
I’m really sad about this.
she’d have more time to be with her family. It seems that is a frequent catch-all for people wanting to leave their roles. I’m thinking she is just getting tired of playing Sami and feels she can no longer bring the life to the character it deserves, in other words, it’s probably getting very stale for her.
I, too, don’t think I could accept a re-cast. Ali is Sami…period…paragraph. Of course we said that about Belle too and ended up many people liked Martha better than Kirsten so, who knows? Same with Bo and RKK. I just hope they don’t try to pull a “Bo” on us and keep her out of town for years to come.
It was one thing recasting Belle and Billie. No way could anyone do Sami justice after Ali. Good for her putting her real-life family first! I hope they leave the door open for Sami to return some day if Ali should decide she’d like to do it.

I never cared about a Belle recast (though the one right after Kirsten was AWFUL – thank goodness we got Martha.) I think I can digest a recast if you "age" a character (or mature them as they did with Belle – which is why Martha was an okay recast.) RKK was as good as you were gonna get if you couldn’t get PR. I can’t see that with Sami b/c she’s not a "hero" – she’s a bad girl/vixen/villainess etc. There’s too much invested there – 21 years is a long time. Even PR wasn’t on as long when RKK came to the show.
it would be like trying to recast Frances Reid as Alice Horton. After 21 years, and watching this beautiful woman as Samantha Gene Brady, I could never, ever accept a recast. I just hope the announcement for a DAYS renewal comes soon; otherwise, I may be suspicious about why Ali’s announcement came out so early, since she’s going to be with the show to the end of the year, and DAYS contract is up in September 2014. I do have some concerns about why her retiring came out when she has a whole year to be on screen. Hope I’m making more out of this than is relevant.
I wasn’t always a fan of her childish behavoir but she has been a staple on this show forever and I will be sad to see her go.
I was wondering if she announced it now b/c DOOL contract expires in the latter half of 2014. Does she know something we don’t? I know DOOL is filmed super far in advance but I thought the announcement came a bit too early. Is it possible DOOL brass pushed her to announce so, if cancelled, they can attribute a decline in ratings to her? See – now I’m getting all wrapped up in my own head with my theories!!!
