DAYS OF OUR LIVES confirms that both Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John) will be back on the long-running NBC soap. "We are thrilled that Deidre and Drake are rejoining the show," says Executive Producer Ken Corday. "I know their return will excite loyal fans and intrigue new viewers. We are gearing up for some amazing cast surprises and guest stars visiting Salem in the fall, launching a grand event airing on September 26th." Adds Co-Executive Producer Greg Meng, who traveled with Hall and Hogestyn while promoting Days of our Lives 45 Years: A Celebration in Photos, "At every stop on the book tour, families of fans told us how much Marlena and John meant to them

I simply copied the site from SOD.  Hope this doesn’t continue on every post.

the two of them are back permanently (or as permanently as one can be on a soap) or for just for a few months? Seems like I heard one time that they were only going to be back for a brief time.

that Dee and Drake were back for the summer, but possibly longer.  As it is, they will be taping throughout the summer, but will not appear on screen until September 26th, so I’m hoping that they will be here much longer than simply September 26th through November sweeps.  No, I would not want to see them depart that quickly, and hope their return is so successful that they and TPTB decide they are such an important part of DOOL’s history that they can put money aside and sign on at least until DOOL’s next contract with NBC ends in 2013, and that by that time the show will have returned with such popularity and increased ratings that it will be extended once again.  I know I’m putting the horse before the cart, but I can hope that’s how it will turn out.

this whole firing of Dee and Drake was just a ploy for ratings.  They "fire" them from the show but then hire them to promote the book?  I don’t think so.  I’ll bet they were offered the "time off" to travel and do the promotion and after that was completed they’d come back to the show again.  I mean, look how much hoop-la their "firings" generated.  Any publicity (even bad) is good for the show.  I think TPTB have been leading us around by our collective noses when they knew D&D would be back all the time.

"POO" on them!  Getting rid of John and Marlena for even a few month would have been awful enough for ratings sake, a book deal, vacation, movie deals, etc., but for two friggin’ years?  Have they no idea how much we have suffered?  Have they no shame?  I started watching twenty years ago because I was a captive audience in a hospital for six weeks, but I continued to watch because of that moment on the pier where J&M reunite…that was true passion/love/fireworks on the t.v. screen.  I said to my self (still in a hospital bed at home), "Wowie!  This is what I’m talking about! And to think I shunned soaps all the days of my life!"  Or something to that effect…

greatful and happy to even see them together again but if they left after a few months…I don’t think I could stand it…I might have to strike the word "Days" from my vocabulary permanently!

I think Corday, Sony and the network had the collective meeting, seeing as how the show was losing ratings and was tanking straight into the toilet.  Since NBC gave them until 2013 to either get the fans back or cut bait and swim, Corday Productions and Sony finally had no choice but to look at exactly where the problems were lying and fix them.  First things first were considered and the writing team took a direct hit, and deservedly so.  These message boards may not be enough to bring any character(s) back, or make decisions on cast or storylines, but, by God, they can and do raise enough hell to make somebody sit up and pay attention.  There have been signs that change in a positive direction was definitely the No. 1 answer to keeping this particular soap on the air, and those signs were overwhelmingly decided by the network to either give the fans what they wanted or your show will be canceled, along with the others who have already gone.  I really believe that’s what happened.

way of OLTL and AMC as I read in the news today:  Half pay for the actors and going on line perhaps if all agree.

I can’t find any justification whatsoever in the idea of:  "Oh-oh, our ratings continue to drop, what should we do?  Ah-ha, I know, let’s fire the two most popular characters!  And we’ll chop off another couple of heads too just to make it look convincing."

Besides, they didn’t even actually fire them, they just gave them a different job of promoting the book.  Nope, the more I think about it the more I’m convinced that that’s what happened.  They pulled the same crap with the Melaswen storyline.  They killed off all those popular characters when they knew all the time they’d return.  Hey, I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck, ya know.

you’re wrong.  They did so absolutely, positively, indeed fire them, and it was because at that time they were instructed to cut the budget dramatically.  I won’t beat this dead horse any longer; so, I will simply, as they say, agree to disagree.

that’s not the first time that’s happened with us.  I don’t know who I could argue with if you weren’t here.  LOL

But that means you think they didn’t pay them anything for traveling around the country promoting the book?  Probably not as much as they were making on the show but that means to me they were not actually fired, only offered a different position.

As Bill O’Reilly would say, you may have the last word as I will allow the poor horse to rest in peace.
