The early part was my favorite just to see the nut cases, except this year they chopped out all the "weridos" – (no, "pants on the ground stuff" which is good in a way, because they have some good singers.  They are up to the first round cuts now.  They cut 160 last night (day), and there are about that many left for next round.  Did a lot of west coast people this time – LA and SF area.  But it’s just a fleeting glance to see the good singers so far, and some of the people who made it into second round, you don’t even get to see them sing.  It’s one big, long Ford commercial it seems through the entire show!

busted apart; but, it was his own fault.  He took a bad song and made it worse.  Like Randy told him, one chance and one chance only.  He knew that going in and still chose a song that just did not benefit his talent in the amount of time allotted.  Too bad, because that young man could sing.  In any case, the ones who got through deserved to be there, so I’m looking forward to the rest of the Hollywood auditions.  Once again, can’t say enough about how much better these judges are than their predecessors.

his anatomy, instead of thinking of a great song to sing that would carry him along with his GF.  Now, I hope that they keep showing the couple just to see if they stay in love after all this, especially if she gets "fame"!  There is always next year for him to try out – he was kind of a boooooob to keep pleading to stay.  Man up Jack! You blew it.  Now go out and support your girlfriend all the way and wish her all the best!

fool of himself instead of gracefully departing. I mean, his choice of song – duh!
I’m probably in the minority but I have zero interest in this young couple.
I always enjoy the group sessions upcoming.

This judging panel is a breath of fresh air. It just got too silly last year with the girls ganging up on the guys and THEY became the show instead of the contestants. I also thought they blew it on the top 20. I’m definitely hopeful of better talent/choices this season.

S-W-E-E-T !!!!  I want to watch to see if they stay together…Fame has a funny way of interfering with "true" love.

How come you never see duets, trios, etc. on AI?  Do they not allow multiple singers?  There are certainly talented ones out there as shown on that other show that showcases large groups of singers whose name escapes me now.

Don and I watched Nashville Star when it was on and the performers on there were 10 times better than most on AI.  They allow duets and trios who are awesome.  Another thing they do is the performers have to write and perform an original song. They get some help with that if needed but it has to be original.

Actually there have been some on AI that we do feel would go farther or be better on Nashville Star than they would on AI.

I’m watching Hollywood week now.  I missed it last week, I’m back in ohio with my dvr.  I think my early favorites are the 15 year old heavy set boy, he is so cute!  and that one guy wth the really curly hair and the beard.  not the long haired red head,  he sang last one night.  he had that keyboard you blow into.  lol.   i’m just so excited about this year!  woohoo!  gonna be awsome!

How many of the very good singers this year wouldn’t have made it past the auditions if Simon or Kara were still there.  Kara was too critical of so many small things and Simon was against the young ones so there’s no way he would have let the 15 year olds go through and the ones that were slightly overweight he would have had negative comments about.  For him it was not just a singing contest but also a beauty contest.

they were allowing anyone under 18 to audition.

And Reuben wasn’t exactly a lightweight.

The cut-off use to be 16 but they’ve lowered it to 15 this year.  Simon had a problem with overweight women and has said as much.  He didn’t like Mandessa when she was on because she was overweight.  He’s made comments to other women also that they don’t fit the image.  I also know he was on Jennifer Hudson for her weight.

Simon’s also made comments to the 16 and 17 year olds about their age saying they’re too young and aren’t old enough to have the experience required.  A lot of times he criticizes their song choice as saying it’s too old for them.  They’re the ones that give them the genre to sing and songs to choose from then complain that the music is too old for them.  When you’ve got music of the 40’s or big band era the songs are going to be too old.

I’m hoping this year they’ll judge them on their performances and not on how they look or dress.  I realize it’s "total package" but the outside can be changed but natural talent can’t be.

I think it will be more about their singing this year, because Steven and Jennifer are in the music buisness and even Steven said that during the hollywood audtions gave them encouragement that he and jennifer have been in their shoes.  granted,  yes still Randy and Steven voted for more than their singing ability with a few of the women.  like the beauty queen and the hula dancer.  thankfully the beauty queen didnt make it past hollywood which i new she wouldnt.

but these judges seem to be genuinely concerned in the talents, especially the younger ones.  They appeared to all be overwhelmed with the talent displayed by the 15-year olds.  As a matter of fact, they were uncharacteristically praised by these judges, and encouraged more than discouraged.  I just can’t say enough about this panel of judges.  They are, indeed, a "class act" themselves.

Me too!  I absolutely love it!  they are awesome!  I too am amazed by the number of 15 year olds they put through, but they were all very good.  I think the judges will be mentors to some of them.  I hope they do the mentor thing like they did with them one year.  I enjoyed that.
