Oh for sure, someone in a coma will definitely have a phone in their room……"We interrupt this coma for an important phone call…."
The writers really ask us to accept a lot but you have to laugh at the ludicrous idea because to get a phone in a room you usually pay for it, and who would figure out, "Sure let’s a phone in here just for Bo. The ringing just might snap him out of the coma."
Oh well it serves the plot well with Hope worried about Bo and now Billie, and chaos ensuing…..
everytime I’ve been in the hospital for the last 10 years (several more than 10!!!), there was a phone in my room and I didn’t have to pay for it. You used to have to pay for TV also but they are now standard. In fact, except for two times, I’ve had a private room…without asking for one.
As for the phone being there, it is also a convenience for the family. So I don’t think we can criticize them for this one. Lord knows, there’s plenty of other stuff that’s so totally unbelievable.
It didn’t "snap" him out of his coma but it sure made him have a seasure…..and OH MY was Billie’s acting ever so HORRID….I usually just roll my eyes but that made me actually laugh out loud….wow talk about bad acting…..
My husband has been in the hospital 3 times in the last 4 years and always had to pay for the TV. You must be in a highly advanced neighborhood, LOL.
I don’t know if yoiu ever had to pay for the phone itself, or just out of area calls?
I told my mother (who watches the show) of this post and she said sometimes there is a phone there anyway, even for the nurses if they are in the room. I never had a phone as it had to be paid for. I am in Canada and maybe it is different though the last time I was in the hospital for any length of time was 10 years back and maybe things have changed.
I also thought it odd they would forward the call to a room where the patient is in a coma, but hey this is Salem and strange things happen in that city….
I’ve had my share of hospital rooms, and I never had to pay for phone service either, extra cable channels yes but never phone. I did laugh that it was a cordless phone. I never had one of them. And she just stood there pressing the call button, when there are usually no nurses at the station anyway.
Every hospital I’ve worked in or been a patient in (both Chicago and Southeast Alabama) the phones and TV’s have been standard in every room with the exception of ICU. In ICU the nurses are close enough to call out if they need help, the family isn’t usually in the room long enough to need the phone and they don’t want the patient to be bothered or stressed out by a phone. If one is needed they can always bring one in for the patient to use for the one call then they remove it again.
and patients or their families have to go down to the information desk to buy a phone and have it hooked up in their room. The phone is theirs to keep then, and if they bring it back the next time they are in hospital, they still have to pay to use it that admission. We still have those little TVs that swing out on an arm at each bedside and patients have to pay for those too. And they certainly aren’t cheap! So I guess those are some of the little differences between Canada and the U.S.
both in California and Florida I’ve always had both free phone and TV, except, as DeeLan said, not in ICU. I hadn’t seen the show yet when I first responded to Johnny’s post but after watching it, it’s apparent Bo is in ICU and not a regular room so there really shouldn’t have been a phone there. But then, how would Hope have found out that Billie was there?
In the hospitals here the nurses carry around individual cell phones now days. Which is why it’s silly when people say you can’t use cell phones in the hospital when all the nurses are using them constantly. They even put their extention number on the board in your room so you can call them instead of using the call button.
As to the cordless phone, now that makes a lot of sense. I can’t tell you how many calls I have missed because I couldn’t reach the phone to answer it. It should be the same with the TVs. Those darn control things always keep falling off the bed. And the last two hospitals I’ve been in had free flat-screen HDTVs.
You probably have to pay for all that in Canada because of the goverhnment paid health care. Here, you/your insurance company are paying the bills so it’s just included in the outrageous charges they bill you for.
about her acting. Maybe she’ll get better once she’s on for a while. And, of course I just hate that the character of Billie is ALWAYS after Bo.
We live on LI and always have to pay for TV and phone ( only for out going calls). DH was just in the hospital it was $7 a day each. What a rip off.
Gosh, I thought phones and TVs were the norm now. I guess not.
AFAIC, I wouldn’t care if I didn’t have a phone in my room. I don’t want to talk to anybody when I don’t feel good. I even tell my friends not to come and visit me because I don’t want to have to and and be "cordial" while I’m feeling so rotten. :o)
Although when I did end up there via the ER…twice, it was handy to be able to call someone to take care of the dogs, newspapers, mail, etc. My neighbor is a saint in that department. Oh, and my kids usually want to know if I’m there.
