We all know that the ages of people are enough to make our heads blow up. And in the main I’ve come to accept blindly that Julie should be 150 years old. But this Carly/Dan/Melanie thing just makes no sense to me.
For me, I would have guessed Daniel’s age to be around 38. Maybe 36 to 38.
A person is a doctor around 27 — or thereabouts. But he wasn’t just a doctor, he was a doctor going to medical conferences. Presumably he was a surgeon or these medical conferences appear, from what they say, to be the elite of the elite.
For Melanie to be 19 or 20, Dr Dan would have had to be 18. How many people are world renowned doctors at 18?
Okay, so say we make him older. Say Dr Dan is really 45/47 age. He’s now old enough to have Melanie for a daughter, but hang on, he was romancing Chelsea last year! and my guess is Chloe is supposed to be about 24 or 25. Icky yes? Why Bo was only fuming and not going insane when a man of this age was romancing his daughter is beyond me.
It would have made more sense if they had said that Carly and Daniel were college sweethearts — but then she would have had Melanie before she met Bo, and she met Bo after Hope died and Shawn Douglas was a little boy, so that timelines just doesn’t work.
The age thing does my head in. LOL
I agree. And the fact that Chloe dated Philip in highschool, but now she’s dating Daniel who is old enough to be a father to Melanie who is now married to Philip who dated Chloe who…you get the idea.

and seemed to have the hots for Billie. I’d say he was more Billie’s age and that they secretly aged Chloe and Phil (somewhat not so secretly) to around 30. I wouldn’t think at 30 that Chloe would be too young for Dr. Dan but at 25, when he now has a 21 yr old daughter, it’s a little strange. The soras’ing and de’sorasing on this show makes it very hard to figure anyone’s age. Phil and Will= same age/NOT! Will older than EJ- NOT! Nathan= where did he ever come from? lol Sami should be older than Brady but now they seem to have Brady older than Sami.
didn’t she just graduate from high school when she came to Salem? I thought she was supposed to be around 18 or 19.
Carly and Lawrence have Nicky who was old enough to sleep with Kate a while back – so Nicky has to be over 30 making Carly and Dan at least 50 – Crystal Chappell is 45 in real life. Nicky was at least 8 or 9, maybe older when he was a kid on the show. It truly is a duct tape alert!
and I do remember Max not serving her when she asked for a drink in the bar because she wasn’t old enough. That was last year, so maybe they aged her then, but decided now to make her younger so it wouldn’t look outrageous that she could be Carly and Dan’s kid, even though, of course it is.
Yes, I remember her not being served alcohol a few months ago because she was under 21. I’m guessing she’s supposed to be 19 or 20.
The actors who play Carly and Dan are both 45 years old. I’d assume their characters are about the same age. Melanie celebrated her 18th birthday on the show sometime early last year so she’s probably 19 by now. That would mean Carly and Dan would have been 26 when she was born. That is feasible.
Phillip, Chloe, Shawn, and Belle graduated from high school on the show in 2002 so that would make them all 26 now. Therefore Phillip is only 7 years older than Melanie which isn’t too bad (my husband is 8 years older than me). The part that bothers me is that Carly left Salem in 1993 and supposedly hooked up with Daniel sometime after that. For Melanie to be 19 she would have had to be born in 1991. The other problem is that Phillip was born on the show in 1994 so he should really only be 16.
I’ve given up on trying to make sense of any of it.
when they met at the medical conf.? I thought that’s what Carly had mentioned at one point, I assumed that she was already into her practice. Also, for some reason, it always seemed that Carly had alluded to having an affair with someone who is younger than she is, even just by a few years.
This is why I’d like the writer’s to "flesh" out the character’s with some history before they enter stage right and we have to feel like we’re suppose to know everything about them. Give us at least a bone of the character’s history to naw on – Dr. Dan – works out a gym, gifted surgeon, widower, had designs on several women in the show, had tryst with Carly years ago that produced child that he was unaware of, Victor’s godson ~ what else? That’s just about what I know about him today, the same as when he came onto the set two (?) years ago, (with the exception now that he’s Mel’s dad).
is that he has a physique to take your breath away! Remember when we saw him after a run in the park? He looked amazing!!!

she had an ‘affair’ with a ‘colleague’ at a medical convention. Now I don’t know about anyone else, but an ‘affair’ means an on-going interlude between two consenting people, but from what I surmise from the later conversation between Dan and Carly is that it was nothing more than a one-night stand. They then decided it was over, became friends, and Carly then introduced Daniel to ‘her’ friend, Rebecca, who we know was Daniel’s wife. So, to me, a ‘one-nighter’ does NOT an ‘affair’ make. What’s even worse, a one-nighter and they didn’t use protection??? Stupid is as stupid does!
Perhaps their protection "broke". I agree with you it was stupid but it’s the shouldda/couldda/woulda moot point now since Mel is here and alive.

Unlike a casual relationship, which is a physical and emotional relationship between two people who may have sex without expecting a more formal romantic relationship, an affair is by its nature romantic.
Carly’s was an (again Wikipedia’s definition): Extramarital affairs are relationships outside of marriage where an illicit romantic or sexual relationship or a romantic friendship or passionate attachment occurs.
Or if it walks like a duck, has feather’s like a duck and quacks like a duck – it’s a duck.
