I haven’t made a lot of online purchases and am in the market for a new tv. I see significant savings online but what might be the pitfalls? Like returns for instance, if something doesn’t work.
How has the experience been for you?

eBay and Amazon, most of what I buy online is from the company itself. All-in-all, my experience has been positive.

But with a TV, I’d hesitate because if you have to return it, it could get very difficult/expensive unless you’re buying from a company that has a brick and mortar location you could return it to if necessary. One advantage is you don’t have to pay sales tax.

about purchasing from a store I can physically get to if something goes awry. And yes, not only are the online prices I’ve seen significantly less but no sales tax.
    Thanks BB!

A year or so ago, I bought a TV from Vizio online.  The TV screen had some black spots on it that did not go away so I had to call Vizio to get another one.  But before they would exchange it, I had to take pictures of the spots, upload them to my computer and send to them.  Fortunately, I did not have to go to UPS or somewhere to return the thing.  They just came to the house, packed up the defected one, and set up the new one.

But I decided then and there, the next time I buy a big screen TV, I would go to a local Best Buy or Pauls TV.  It’s just more convenient if something goes wrong.  I love online shopping and buy a lot from HSN and Amazon (even bought an Ipad from Amazon with no sales tax or shipping!), but I won’t buy any big electronics items online again.

Going a bit off topic here, but starting November 1, we Massachusetts residents are going to have to start paying a sales tax on Amazon.  I guess it’s because Amazon has or will have a factory here.  Not really sure about that but if that’s true, too bad they didn’t go to NH where they have no sales tax anyway.  Ughhhhh!!!!!

I’d do it with a big box store where I could take it back if necessary.
As for sales tax, NY residents (which I am one) also have to pay for online purchases. NY will get you any way they can!

things within two days with their Prime feature. And they take back anything for any reason for a lengthy reasonable period. I’ve purchased small and big ticket items with them and love them.
