Or did I miss it?
Apparently Alison Sweeney has moved over to General Hospital to do some directing. So much for spending more time with her family.

Seems like Alison would have just stayed with Days, but just as part of the directing team. Maybe they didn’t offer her the job.
Actually I did see this and annieo that was the first think I thought of too. I am not sure if it takes less time to direct but I would think you would have to be present every day of shooting.
I often wondered how true the "spending time with the kids" would work as they are in school now so i am sure they would work around her needs. Remember when Dee would take summers off to be with her kids? I really feels that she has taken Sami as far as she can!!
Alison was ASKED by Frank Valentini, the EP of General Hospital, to direct a FEW episodes of GH due to one of the directors suddenly coming down with an illness. Anyway, FV called her; she didn’t go looking for it; plus, it’s only temporary. Geez, seems Ali can’t catch a break on anything she does without some sort of criticism. That’s sad, IMO!
It could be that she is just tired of playing Sami after all these years and wants to leave. Can’t really blame her if that is the case. I did not believe the kids excuse either…they are older and not babies anymore and in school so no need….but I really think that the show is in a lot of trouble. With so many people leaving, it seems like the end of days to me…I can’t see how it can go on for much longer. Even Kristen’s return will be brief….She is going back to the Young and the Restless full time.

the last time she left, and then she went back to Y&R, then back to DOOL, then back to Y&R again. Don’t hear anyone bad-mouthing her decisions. I’m just saying!!!
you have a good point Misty, I mean A.S. has been in this role for like two decades? Soaps are a grind and Ali probably wants a change and opportunities to pursue other goals. She may well be thinking Sami is getting a little old for these antics too.
I cannot blame her in the least for leaving. And who knows she may be back in the future.I am not bad mouthing her. Many actors have left to pursue other venues. Dee, Kristen, Josh all tried to make it in nighttime tv. Jay (Philip),Kirstin (Belle), nadia (Chloe), Molly (Melanie) all left hoping to make it in tv or movies.
In most cases, they did make it and returned. I realize that Ali has been on DOOLs a long time and understand her wishing to pursue other interest– host of T, author, commericals, I totally get it. Howeve, just tell it like it is. I would say the same thing to Eileen but don’t really care for her to return to DOOL cause I don’t like her character!
I just feel it would have been better to say " I have taken Sami as far as I can and now I want to try something else".
including when she first broke the news on Ellen. Directing has always been one of her goals, the same as Kimberly McCullough, which is why she left her role as Dr. Robin Scorpio Drake on General Hospital, even though fans of that show are still condemning her for it. People move on from their comfort zone eventually, and that’s exactly what Alison is doing.
