Can the TV prime-time schedule get any worse? No wonder Days is so bad, the whole damn thing has gone to hell in a hand basket. It used to be Sunday nights had some great shows on with a sprinkling of other things worth watching during the week during the summer but, I swear, I can’t find a single show to watch that’s worth turning the TV on for, even on cable.

If this goes on much longer I’m going to have to do something drastic, like read a book or something.

I signed up for the Adult Summer Reading Program at our local library.  I’ve read four books in the last 2 weeks.  I pick them strictly for enjoyment, unlike my husband, who only reads non-fiction, technical stuff!  The TV has been gathering dust in our house this summer – not that we’re huge TV watchers anyway, but we do stream movies from Netflix.  If you do have Netflix, watch Grace and Frankie, with  Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston.  Two actresses portraying their actual ages!  It’s well acted and well scripted, funny, and hits home all at the same time.  Seems like every time I get invested in a TV show, it’s cancelled.

those Dateline mysteries. And they usually have 2 or 3 on a week. I’m also watching the Whispers, a paranormal/crime drama. Otherwise I often tune in classic tv shows. I only have non-network tv so I’m limited but tv is just a habit you can get in or out of.

The first episode of Suits was really good. Cable has some new shows that look pretty good but I already have other shows scheduled on the DVR for those times. I have another TV with a VCR still hooked up to it but I’m not going to start stockpiling a whole bunch of shows so I have to sit there every night for hours and hours watching them. I probably watch too many as it is. But then, it keeps me out of the bars! :o)

Don’t know if I mentioned this before but my women’s club has gotten involved with making dresses for the orphans in Africa. They are dresses made from pillow cases and really cute although you can use fabric too. I have just gone bananas making them and enjoy it thoroughly. The women have donated laces and trimmings and stuff so it’s really fun jazzing them up and making them pretty. Check them out at http://www.littledressesforafrica.org to see what they look like. I’ve make 170 so far and still have enough fabric for another 12. I’m aiming for 200.

We also are making shorts for the boys out of t-shirts. It’s kind of hard to explain how it’s done but they say the boys just love the ones that are made out of shirts with sports logos on them. The way they are cut, the logo comes out on the side of the leg. It’s not as fun as the dresses though because you can’t really put lace and stuff on them.

in your charitable efforts. Have tons of respect for that. Sounds like you’re more upbeat after all the health issues you’ve been through. I hope you’re feeling better now.
I will check out that website.

on PBS has two great drama series on Sunday nights now. Last Sunday (6/21) was the first episode for each of the series. The first one is called Poldark (Revolutionary War soldier returns to Cornwall) and the second is The Crimson Field (three WWI nurses work at a field hospital in France). I watched the first episodes last Sunday and thought they were great. Anyone else catch them?

that I will never be able to walk unassisted again, my attitude changed. I have always been an optimistic person but this one was a real blow as I have always been a very active and athletic person. When I think of all the things I’ll never be able to do again, it can be a downer. However, I keep telling myself it could be much worse…much.

I enjoyed both of them alot.  My husband and I are also great fans of Downton Abbey and I saw two of the actors (both butlers on Downton) in The Crimson Field.  They set some mysteries on The Crimson Field; it will be interesting to see them play out.  We are also huge fans of Call the Midwife.  I go through a whole range of emotions, from laughing to crying, watching the Midwife’s.  I’m glad to see something replace both those shows on Sunday evening until the new seasons start.  We never watched the original Poldark way back in the mid-70’s.  Probably hadn’t discovered PBS at that time!  Of course, for humor, there’s always Doc Martin which I believe/hope is coming back in 2016.

in The Crimson Field, but didn’t know who the other Downton Abbey actor was on the show until I looked it up. Spratt! I don’t remember seeing him on last week’s show, but I’ll be looking for him on tomorrow night’s show. Thanks for pointing that out, Annieo.

of British TV but I have to say I really enjoy Doc Martin. The only trouble is I don’t watch it regularly enough to keep up on what’s happening.
