Kindle book reader (or what ever they are calling them)?  I love to read…let me rephrase that…I used to love to read…three or four books a week and that was when I was working ten hours a day, (plus hubby and house).  Now I’m retired and thought I’d be able to read a lot more… however, my eyes tear up after reading about ten pages or so…I have a great eye doctor and up date my reading glasses every year if necessary, but it’s no fun for me to read anymore – and that was going to be one of my pleasures of being retired… So I am contemplating getting a Kindle reader because you can make the Fonts BIG and you can download books in 60 seconds and you can also at the touch of a button listen to the book (it reads itself to you) for when you are grocery shopping or something and can’t put the book down because it’s so great…but it’s expensive – now I do treat myself once a year to a new toy – if possible – and I am thinking this is almost a necessity rather than a luxury for me – but I don’t know anyone who owns one…

I know nothing about the Kindle but I listen to books on CD in lieu of picking up a book.  I can clean house, cook, do laundry, etc.  If I’m in the car, I put it in my CD player.  I also have a small Ipod but seem to have more trouble starting and stopping it when I want to.  It’s just a little one.  I always have to have my daughter load it as I haven’t figured out how to do that!  That you can take outside when you’re gardening.  And the CD’s are available at the public library.  That might be an option instead of the Kindle reader if you don’t want to spend the money.  Our library has the option of loading an e-book to your computer, and I thought that would be great to get all the new books, but it’s weird, you go on a waiting list for those as well.

gotten either by purchasing or getting at library…that I love; but I tend to fall asleep if I’m not having to read the actual book …(told you I was getting old…older…errrrr  ancient…)…so that’s why I thought – reading would be an advantage to me…keeps my mind active….you can also download the kindle books from Amazon to your computer too – but I don’t want to sit at the computer all day either (I do enough of that as it is)…thanks – I have a few months to ponder and save up (before BD) so I’ll think on it a bit more…

I have a cousin with a Kindle and he loves it.  I was just reading about them the other day because Barnes & Noble just came out with their version of one.  From what I read the Kindle is worth the extra money because the screen is bigger and it’s easier to read.  Also something about a backlight which the cheaper ones out there don’t have.

see it for yourself?   I’d do that before I ordered one online to be sure that it actually does what you need it to do.  Ask your friends too and see if they have one that you could see, hold, etc.  Just a suggestion.

awhile because after the iPod has been released (it just was recently) the price on the other eReaders should start coming down.

My friend has one and swears by it.  She travels a lot and doesn’t have to lug a bunch of books with her.  Also, she likes being able to choose the font (she’s at that "certain age" also!) and says it also works well outside.

The only drawback I can see is you more for the books than just buying them outright, which I don’t do anyway.  I always buy them used at Amazon, often as little as 1¢.  But new paperbacks are rarely $9.99 which is what the ebooks cost.  Now if you buy a lot of first published hard covers, it would be worth it.  Anyway, I’m going to wait a  little longer to see what happens.  I noticed that Sony’s eReader was being offered at BJs for $249 with a $50 rebate which would be $50 less than the Kindle.  Their books are available from Barnes & Nobel.

     – everything I’ve been reading about points to Kindle as the best reader to have now…for the selections of the books.  Sony has a wonderful reputation for it’s products but there is no comparison to Kindle – maybe in the future as these things get more popular…a lot of folks on-line blogs say they are going to wait – a lot say they can’t live without their Kindle now but it’s like anything that first comes out on the market – look when microwaves or VCR’s first came out in the late 70’s – if you are going to go get a toy – then I might as well bite the bullet and get one – in two years or five years they are all going to have more bells and whistles on them…might as well enjoy now.

Not only can you get books on the Kindle but blogs can get put on their list and readers can subscribe to them via the Kindle.

My 88 year old father has one and never puts it down!  (We got it for him for Fathers Day one year ago).  The biggest advantage to him is that, as you said, he can adjust the font size so therefore he’s no limited to books that come in large font.  My sister and sister-in-law (both 51 yrs old) have had them for  a couple of years – and also swear by them.

One thing you can try – Amazon.com has FREE Kindle software you can download to your computer (Mac or PC) and a link to websites that offer FREE books to download (mostly classics).  You can try it on your computer and then see if you actually like the experience.  While it won’t be the same as carrying the Kindle, it’ll give you a chance to experience reading a book on the screen.

I downloaded the software and one book to my laptop to test it, but haven’t started it yet (as I’m finishing a book now that’s almost due back to the library).

all the details and tibbits of information on it!  Looking forward to getting one…I’m going to save up and get it for my BD (few short months away) – plus there is a rumor out there that the Kindle 3 is coming out – new bells and whistles – so perhaps by BD time those rumors of the K3 will be substantiated or else I’ll just bite the bullet and get one!  Thanks a million again!  If anyone comes up with other info – please let me know!  Happy reading to all my bibiophile friends out there!
