Three stink-a-roo games this past weekend.  I thought the Chargers would put up a good fight the entire game, not just in the second half.  With all of the tape available to coaches, why aren’t adjustments made prior to halftime?  Brady once again showed why he’s the GOAT, but can they win on the road against a white hot KC team? (BTW, I still say Bosa is overrated.)

Speaking of the Chiefs, I really didn’t think the Colts would win outside in the cold.  I wonder if Indy practiced outdoors at all prior to traveling to KC.  The Chief’s D came loaded for bear and put a real hurtin’ on Luck.

The Rams looked suspect a couple of times toward the end of the season, so I thought Dallas had a chance.  Donald and company stuffed Zeke over and over again.  Drew has so much more experience reading defenses and is a master at adjusting plays.  The Saints defense really dialed it up after halftime, so it will be interesting to see how Goff and company do now that NO is catching a whiff of a Super Bowl bid.

And now for the only game that provided any drama.  Wow, I really thought Foles was going to pull it off again.  My only fear was he would leave too much time on the clock for Brees to drive down the field to set up a game winning field goal for Lutz.  But alas, it was not to be.  Alshon’s normally sticky fingers turned to butter.  I was watching post-game coverage on NFL Network and ESPN.  One of them showed reporters interviewing Alshon who showed total class in his responses.

    Predictions for the conference championships:

NO continues their dominance in the Dome.

NE hasn’t been too shiny on the road and they won’t be at KC.

Super Bowl will be Saints vs Chiefs.

I have to admit, it was purple icing on my cupcake watching the Chargers lose to the Pats, even though I’m as tired of everyone else seeing Brady and company get to the SB.  As for Phillip Rivers, he cried more than he did when the Ravens beat them to get us to the playoffs.  The guy screams at refs, coaches, his own players, everone but the man in the mirror.  Sorry, but I’m not sorry they lost.    As great as the Pats looked in that game, I don’t believe they’ll get by the Chiefs that easily.  IMO, Drew Brees is as amazing a QB as I’ve ever seen and deserves to be where he and the Saints are, even though Peyton is not one of my favorite coaches.  Stay off the damn playing field like it’s your own back yard!  Can’t stand that about him.  My pick is Chiefs beat the Pats, Saints squeak by the Rams, with the Kansas City Chiefs winning the BIG GAME!  Kelce and Mahomes are like conjoined twins.  LOL!

Felt the same way about Dan Marino.  I can’t dig on Sean P either, but I like Brees alot.  Great man on and off the field.

it was a turkey of a FB weekend otherwise. I always loved Rivers’ competitive nature but his constant jawing w/refs and the opposition (though it’s clean talk) gets on my nerves.
So much for the earlier imminent demise of Brady, but the Pats’ so so road record plus the dazzling Chiefs’ play should end their run. KC should win, as should Saints, but I hope for exciting games both.

Who could ask for more from the AFC/NFC champ games? (Well, maybe KC to win!) Everyone predicting Brady’s demise earlier this season – have to chuckle on that one.
Should be an entertaining Super Bowl.

when the old guard dogs (Belichick and Brady) take on the new pups (McVay and Goff).  Should be one heck-of-a dog fight.  I have never rooted for the Pats, but even I must admit, it’s pretty hard to beat perfection.

But first my take on Sunday….

The Saints were robbed, but two great red zone opportunities in the first quarter resulting in field goals rather than TDs.  Punch it across the goal line and the non-call is a non-issue.

How amazing is the fact that Goff and the offense didn’t have any false starts considering they couldn’t hear each other most of the time!  Sean McVay has obviously instilled a lot of discipline in this team.  Goff’s poise was most impressive as well.  I would imagine Patriots fans will be in the majority at Atlanta, so it’s a good thing the Rams have passed the noise test with flying colors.  Zuerlien was amazing under pressure with those two long field goals.

What da hell was Chiefs DC Bob Sutton thinking??  Did he not see Brady completing swing pass after swing pass to his RBs?  Why didn’t he make an adjustment to cover those?  Why were they consistently rushing only 3 D linemen?  Dee Ford, how long have you been playing football including pee wee, high school, college and the NFL?  Good grief, being mindful not to line up in the neutral zone is Defense 101.  That penalty kept the defense on the field and led to a Patriots score.  No penalty, game over.  And don’t even get me started on their run defense.  Holy cow, I could have run for 20 yards on some of those plays.

Brady is the G(QB)OAT, but Bellichick is the GOAT when talking about coaches.  Nobody is better at preparing a team for an opponent.  Nobody runs a more disciplined ship.  I don’t think Brady would be the GOAT under any other coach as he developed a system to utilize Brady’s strengths.  I’m still amazed that Edelmann didn’t touch the ball as it was so close to his hands, but the videos don’t lie.  Amazing discipline on his part.  Gronk was clutch and is one of the most unselfish players around considering his celebrity status.

Super Bowl – McVay and Wade Phillips will be sending Donald, Suh et al at Brady.  If he doesn’t have time to watch a play develop, he won’t be nearly as effective.  Brady Gurley will perform much better and Anderson will be a factor as well.  If the Rams establish the run and get pressure on Brady, they Rams will win.  If they allow Brady to do what he does best, the Patriots will rack up another SB victory.

it has to be said, this was THE WORST season ever where officiating has turned into a game-changer.  Many of these officials, most of whom are very confident and experienced refs, have made blunders throughout the entire season, but their word in most cases is law, and this is something I’m sure the NFL is going to take a very good and long look at during the off=season.  Something has to be done, whether it’s the use of instant replay or whatever method comes up during a game where penalties caused by an official’s wrong decision can make or break a game.  New Orleans and football fans around the country are mad as hell about this no-call error, and they have every right to be.

Once again the Pats reign as champs in the most boring SB game. Have to hand it though to coach B who strangled the high octant Rams offense. Scary thing is Bellichick and Brady back again next year!

Rams were no match for the Pats’ defensive line; but that being said, they did hold the Pats to two field goals and one long aired-out completed pass to Gronk setting the stage for the only touchdown the Pats would see on the day.  Unfortunately, the Rams couldn’t beat 13 points in four quarters of play.  Too bad!
