I just watched the episode where Maggie was making pies for the homeless shelter. It seems that Maggie is definitely becoming the new Alice. Except, of course, Alice made donuts. Makes me feel old to see the once glamorous Maggie becoming the matriarch. Not that she still isn’ t beautiful…because Maggie is still lovely. But her role on Days is evolving. She has taken in the lost and lonely…and is doleing out wise advice to troubled girls. I wish they would bring Mickey back and make them a loving couple like Tom and Alice. If she is replacing Alice, the least they could do is make her husband available for moral support!
John and Marlena would fill the patriarch and matriarch roles when Alice no longer could but when they were let go, it ended that possibility. In order for Maggie to have Mickey to rely on, they’d have to cast the role again. I guess it’s cheaper and easier to just say he’s on a constant business trip all the time. I have to say that sometimes I didn’t like Maggie’s attitude of sticking her nose into other people’s business. Hopefully that will change now that she seems to be the new matriarch.
I don’t think Marlena and John could have filled those roles. Neither one is in any way related to the Horton family. And that is the connection to the head of the family.
I agree that at times Maggie has acted more like a truant officer than family matriarch. I’d like to see more of Mickey and how their strong bond could heighten the “Tom and Alice” factor. The original actor brought this out very well.
I’d love to see Doug & Julie be the next Tom & Alice. Julie has the spunk to get right in there, she’s "been there, and done that", and I can see her ofering advice. Plus, she’s got her partner with her..he’s not off somewhere unknown.
I agree…Doug and Julie would be the perfect couple to be the next Tom and Alice….but they aren’t in Salem very much. Maybe someone will steal their passports and they will be stuck there.
