Since we don’t know the entire back story yet, Lawrence could have taken the baby away for her mother (who is now believed to be dead) and Carly is really the stepmother trying to fill a void. Or maybe there is an inheritance involved! If Lawrence had the ‘affair’, and has been taunting her all this time, that could explain why Carly stabbed him, ran and is seeking the heir. How about that idea? If Melanie is the ‘child’ she could be richer than Philip ? Hmmmmmm
