Since when is a tombstone engraved the same day as the funeral?  They panned in on it when Kate was talking to the grave.  It certainly isn’t done that way where I’m from (OH).  Especially a bronze plaque.  It takes awhile just to get a death certificate, let alone a plaque engraved.  That was pretty unrealistic.

you can have things like that done in a nano-second and fly to Hong Kong in 1 hour…and get pregger’s when ten different doctor’s have told you that you cannot get preg.  We suspend reality in Salem at least three times a day…sometimes four. ;)

They said Alice made her own arrangements after Mickey died, so go figure….. i dont remember if it was maggie that said it or someomeone else.

Even if you have the arrangements made ahead of time you don’t know the date of your death or even the year so you can’t have that part engraved ahead of time, only the stone picked out and the birth date.    When my parents died, in Chicago, I was told they had to wait until the ground settled before adding the stone.  They added my dad’s a bit too soon and it started sinking on one side and had to be removed and reinstalled.

immediate service by all companies involved!  Plus, I’m guessing that since the date was 6/22/10, and the show for the memorial was a few days later, that was supposed to explain it.

"We suspend reality in Salem at least three times a day…sometimes four. ;)", true enough if you can stand to watch long enough :)

Why didn’t Alice and Tom share one tombstone?  That is usually how they do it around here when a couple has been married for as long as Tom and Alice were.

I guess it depends on how prepared they were when Tom died.  When my brother died my dad picked out his grave site and my mom got mad that he didn’t get 3 more, one for each of them and 1 for me.  I was only 20 and didn’t want to think about me needing a grave at that point.  When my dad died I had to get a site in the next section since there were none by my brother but I did get 2 at that time.  When my mom died 4 years later I just told the funeral director to pull my dad’s records and duplicate everything and went to the monument place and told them the same thing and gave them my moms dates.  But they were both 74 and when dad died I was more prepared and able to think straight about not wanting to do all of it again when mom passed.

My aunt and uncle not only had their grave sites picked out but their headstones were already in place with their names and birthdates.  They just had to have the date of death inserted when the time came.  My mom always commented on how she felt that was terrible and didn’t want to see her name on a headstone everytime she went to the cemetery.

Actually, I’m from Ohio too (southern), and recently buried my grandmother.  She was buried in the morning…and my grandpa and I went back to the cemetery later that evening and her tombstone was engraved.  I think it has more to do with who you know.  My grandpa used to be a trustee at the cemetery, so they bent over backwards to get it engraved immediately.  I’m sure Alice was important enough :)
