to his discussion on how the BP oil spill in the Gulf will impact the delicate ecosystems of the world's oceans, and potentially trigger a series of events, including global sea level rise, that could kill our planet.
He was saying that a large methane gas bubble could be under the oil spill - the gulf is like a big bath tub so no where for the oil to go for awhile. If this methane gas is hit by lightening (they have a lot of lightening and thunder storms in that region), it could explode into a fire ball like a nuclear bomb - taking out Miami, Orlando, and most of southern Florida. (There was an explosion in 1986 - Lake Nyos in the Cameroon area that killed people 15.5 miles away and killed 2,000 people in one night). (Bonbon - you can pack up animals and come see me)
Dr. Ward (University of Washington in Seattle) said that unfortunately seeing the birds and animals being scrubbed down - is good for the heart but 90% of them die anyway three days later, due to the fact that oil is absorbed into the skin and inhaled and no matter how much scrubbing you can't get the toxins from the oil out. He said the moneys being used for this effort would be better served stopping more of the oil from reaching the shores and at the source.
Another thing Dr. Ward mentioned was that if a hurricane comes to the region, it will be raining oil in Texas, Oklahoma, Indiana, and more - so what are all those states doing now? It is their growing season for corn, wheat, barley, etc., - what will that do for the price of food? Sky high.
And are any of you wondering how come you don't see helicopters and planes flying over head so that we can all see how big this thing is? Area from Great Lakes to New York. Area from San Diego to San Francisco. The government put a no-fly zone up to keep the reporters from flying over to film. Wonder why we haven't seen pictures taken from a U-2 spy plane? From the Space Station? They don't want us all to know how big this oil spill is, both BP and the government in the White House.
The only good news is that Kevin Costner (movie actor) who has over the years developed centrifugal equipment that can sift the oil out of the water - but it took the TPB 61 days to OK trying it.
It was a three hour show - so I only mentioned highlights or else I'd be typing for six hours...I don't know about you all - but I'm P.O.'d about the lack of help and solutions coming from Washington, D.C. This oil slick could eventually end up around New York...
