October 14/02

I still have just under 100 requests to process, left over from March.  Any "new" members you see posting are those who have waited that long.  I have not opened up registrations again and will not until I catch up again.  Please do not email me to ask when I will open up the board again, I will not respond to such emails.  I cannot answer the question at this time.  If you are considering requesting a password if and when registrations open again, PLEASE, ONLY DO SO IF YOU PLAN TO POST!.  I've got over 400 registered members, but only a fraction of those ever bother to use the board to post.  It takes time to process each registration, and you will be wasting my time, and others' time if you request access and do not use it.  I reserve the right to delete inactive accounts.

I posted this on Salem Place, and thought I'd copy it here.

Hi folks,

I've been getting lots of email lately asking when I'll take new members. I've not been able to respond to the emails...I've had too many. It sucks to be popular LOL!

Now I'm getting bombarded with mail because there are SOME new members, and people want to know why there are newcomers if I'm not taking new registrations, so I'm posting here to explain.

I cut off new member registrations in late March. At that time I was over 180 requests behind. We suddenly became very popular when EE started putting their spoilers here when their website kept disappearing.

I'm pleased to have EE here, but at the time I was in the heavy construction phase of my store. I'm open for business now, but we're still building 2 sections, and I'm working about 70+ hours a week. For those who don't know, I own a saltwater aquarium store, and I also do maintenance service on peoples' fish tanks. I work 7 days a week right now, most days I'm open 10 AM to 8 PM and when I'm not there, I'm cleaning tanks, or driving to and from the airport, picking up livestock orders. Thursday morning at 1:45 AM I was unpacking and tanking 6 boxes of livestock, after a full day of working. As I'm sure you can understand, I'm a bit tired lately.

I JUST added 45 or so of those 180+ individuals who have been waiting since early March for their passwords. I still have 144 requests in my mailbox right now, from March 12 onward, to process before I even THINK of taking more requests.

Unfortunately, plenty of folks who request a password, never bother to post, so I'm doing a LOT of work, and having very little to show for it in the way of board traffic. PLEASE...if and when I get to opening up membership again, don't ask for a password if you don't plan to post. We've got over 300 members now (probably close to 400...I lost count) and only a handful post with any sort of regularity. If those who didn't want to post but just registered "because", didn't, I wouldn't be so backlogged.

I do post from time to time on the board, from my store. Goodness knows I need a break from my workday sometime! I don't have much time during the day but I do pop in from time to time. Unfortunately, my password requests are on my home computer, so I can't enter them from work, and I'm not motivated to forward them all over there. Board work is done on my precious little free time.

SO...if you applied for a password between March 12 and the beginning of April, hang on...I'll get to you. If you didn't, I'm sorry but I can't say when I'll re-open things. I'm almost afraid to, given the email I'm getting, because in no time I'll be backlogged again!

I'm happy that the board is busy and that all are enjoying it, it's just a shame that this didn't happen when I only worked part time, or when I was between when I quit my old job, and when I started building my store! After 3 years online, Salem Place finally caught on....

I hope this answers any questions you may have. Hope this doesn't come off as a whine-fest, it's not meant to be. I'm working hard at what I love, I'm the owner of my own business, and I'm loving every minute of it. However, it can be physically and emotionally draining at times. It's a good tired :o)

I appreciate your continued patience.

Regards,

Jenn
